It was a short and nonspeaking role before she played Sam Jennings in The Safety of Objects (2001), an independent film. In 2002 Stewart had a major role in the Hollywood film Panic Room. In this movie she got a chance to play with Jodie Foster. Playing a morose, diabetic daughter of a divorced mother (Jodie Foster), Stewart earned positive notices and was nominated for a Young Artist award as Leading Young Actress for her performance.
